There are some basic components that mus be in included in a bug out bag. This does not address the most obviuos items like and food and water. What this addresses is the items that can increase your hance of survival when you run out of food and water.

Here are 5 things you must include in your bug out bag.

1. A combination knife, fire starter & cord has a multitude of uses. It can be used to cut, pry, peel, shave, chop, scrape and even kill. It offers the survivalist the oportunity to kill their prey or defend themself. A knife can be used to erect a shelter which is the most critical element to survival.

2. Para-cord is also a must have item in any bug out plan. Most campers have para-cord bracelets on their wrists for accessibility and reduce space in the bag. paracord is used to erect a shelter. lash logs, suspend game, used for trapping and even fishing.

3. A water bottle for hydration with a Life Straw . This may seem obvious to some but the type of water bottle is just as critical. Avoid containers that collapse, become brittle with cold and can easily be punctured.

4. A flashlight that does not rely on lead acid batteries. Hand generated is good but not very powerful. Consider having a "B" light with recharagable batteries (you will need a power source such as foldable solar mat). A good "B" light can double as a a weapon for defense.

5. A non-breakable signaling device and sound device, unless you do not plan on ever being found again.

6. A compass is vital. A compass can tell you if you are headed to Canada, Florida or just walking in a big circle.

7. Material for building a shelter such as mylar thermal blankets, vinyl or tarp.

8. First aid kit is critical.

9. Dry clothes in the form of socks, shirts and pants in case you get wet. Hypothermia can kill quickly.

10. Good , weatherproof camping gear that includes a warm sleeping bag
