DIY Portable Roller Coaster

For all you Dads and Granddads that want to earn brownie points with the kiddos, read this. There are any number of roller coasters that were built in backyards and they are impressive, large and some of them are quite elaborate. The one thing that I have not found is much on portable roller coasters.

Let's face it, the wife and neighbors don't want to see some large contraption occupying the entire back yard. Why not make one that is portable, easily deployed, can be assembled by a child in less than 5 minutes and is quite affordable.
The general concept is that you use (12) 10' lengths of 1" PVC pipe (provided by user) that snaps into a pre-drilled hole strategically placed on several vinyl cross ties. The hole, when drilled properly, provides just enough clearance for the wheels of the sled to glide over the entire length of the track.

Four sets of Delrin "V" grooved wheels (included in kit) are attached to the underside of a wood sled. The track is either laid on a grassy slightly sloped surface or a flat lawn for the small children.

The PVC pipes are connected together with special internal couplers (included in kit) that fit snug enough to resist pulling apart. The track can be any length, this kit is for a 60' track, and can be increased by purchasing more components.

The (2) 60' sections of PVC track are held in-place with (18) vinyl 3/4" x 1.5" cross ties (included in the kit). Each 10' section has 3 cross-ties.
