Anybody that has been without household power for even a few hours can appreciate the comfort of a well lit room. Maybe your priority is your coffe maker, mine is. Running a refrigerator or a freezer has to be at the top of your list. Before you jump at buying an emergency power pack for the home I recommend you determine what it is you plan on running.
The following power packs will provide useable power for your more basic needs. Id you require more power or need to run a greater distance then allowances must be made. A simple solution would be to connect additional batterys in paralle and increase your operating voltage to 24v DC. There are plenty system components that use that voltage and higher.

The Xantrex is more portable than most power packs. The storage battery at on;ly 51 AH is limited. The inverter is a hefty 1500 watts but with only a 51 AH battery you will not be running very long. Overall it is a good system and I give it an A+ for portability.

The Goal Zero is perhaps the cleanest and nicest looking portable pack. It is a hefty 103 pds. but it does have a 100AH battery. This power pack is one of the few that is already configured for a proprietary solar panel, but it is possible to use other panels and connectors. Until somebody comes up with a lighter battery and a pure sine wave inverter this power pack gets my vote.
